Our Bodies Are Your Battlefields (Isabelle Solas, 2021)
🔥Never change a winning team...or, at least, don't change it too much!🔥
Dear CPiers,
yes, it is us again…But hey, we warned you that our autmnal plans would be really packed!
…so, bear with us!🐻
On Wednesday 11th of October, we are going to watch and discuss Our bodies are your battlefields (Isabelle Solas, 2021), “an intimate portrait of a community of trans women in Argentina who face violence and discrimination at all levels yet continue to thrive through love, organizing and care.”
If you want to get ready for the night through a more literary perspective, go to the closest independent bookshop, buy and devour (if you haven’t done it yet) Las Malas/Bad Girls/Im Park der prächtigen Schwestern, the first novel by the dazzling soul of Camila Sosa Villada. Enchanted by the magic realist athmospheres, you will have the privilege to read about her life as a young transgender in an early-90s Argentina (TW: although her words are soft and tender, the narrated events contain a certain degree of physical and psychological violence).
The event is organized in collaboration with two amazing local groups, one of which you might remember from the first CP Vienna season🦄
…we are speaking about Kollektiv Lauter* and Bibliothek von Unten!
The kollektiv lauter* is a queerfeminist and anti-capitalist collective from Vienna. Their focus is primarily on political practice, less on theoretical work. For them, this means on the one hand going out to the streets, but on the other hand also to talk to many people, especially young people, about feminist issues. They also aim at networking with other feminist and emancipatory movements in order to learn new strategies to combat and overcome this sexist, racist, and profit-and-production-oriented system.
The Bibliothek von unten is a self-managed library in the heart of Vienna with a special focus on social movements and emancipatory issues. Founded in 2000, the library was taken over by a new committed team in 2021 after a few years of dormancy. In addition to organising readings, lectures, and workshops, they see their task primarily in expanding and refining their stock and building up and advising an active left-wing readership.
